I present for your viewing pleasure Sofonisba Anguissola, a female painter of the Italian High Renaissance. Her family was peculiar in the fact that all of the daughters (6 of them) received humanist education and all pursued their own interests. While some of them eventually married and dropped what they were doing, Sofonisba pressed on, even after marriage (in fact, her husband was purportedly supportive of her painting). She was so talented that even Michelangelo and Vasari were forced to admit her skill. Visari said of her work, “[she] has shown greater application and better grace than any other woman of our age in her endeavors at drawing; she has thus succeeded not only in drawing, coloring and painting from nature, and copying excellently from others, but by herself has created rare and very beautiful paintings.”
This woman, at a tremendous disadvantage learning human anatomy because of the times and her sex, and living in a time where women were generally dismissed, made one of the greatest artists in the world and the first art historian acknowledge her skill. This lady kicked some serious ass and she’s definitely one of my history crushes.

Another OC sketch today. (I posted two earlier today) First of all, I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to those people who have shown some me support for these. I was scared to death to show them honestly. I’ve given no one a real reason to care about these characters and this comic will be my first attempt at creating my own completely original comic so it will probably be awhile before I’m really able to present them in a way that will really be worth your time. But I need to start somewhere and thanks so much for your patience.:)
This is Ambassador Kanda Prill. She’s a member of the royal family and I don’t want to give too much away here in this description, but she ends up going from a more minor member of her family to the most important… She is quite a pleasant person, actually, though you can’t tell that from her expression here. I was in a bit of an anxious mood when I drew her and I guess that came out in her expression. Oh, well, there will be plenty in this story to cause her to look this way. heh.

I’ve changed the color on this image from the last time I posted it..
Warming up for my promotional image with some color sketches of my characters. This is Max Oleron. He’s actually of the same race as Captain Monta, but skin coloration of this species, the Ilyani, vary quite a bit, along with other things. They have varied abilities as well, such as Max’s telekinesis. They are placed into various castes as soon as their abilities start to surface. Anyone with Max’s talents would be placed with their artisan cast and I’ll go into more detail on all of that later.
Max is a talented sculptor who uses his telekinesis to create exquisite and intricate creations. He is also a wastrel who resents the fact that so much is expected of him from society as a whole as well as his prestigious family. Not all the Ilyani are blessed with these special abilities, but much is expected of those who are. At the same time, he is also egotistical and aristocratic and does feel like he deserves the privileges that come from having his abilities, just not the responsibilities. He has a lot of redeeming character traits though, like his immense courage, which will surface as my story progresses.
He is basically on board the Pharis against his will. His family used their clout to get him a position as the Ambassador’s secretary, hoping this will make something of him. Needless to say, this will be cause for quite a bit of tension throughout the story..
I’ll be posting more on my other characters throughout the day.

Well, the colors are coming out more intense on these OC images. Maybe it’s what happens when I have to reduce the file to post it? I think I’ll try to make my colors less intense anyway, bc I don’t know how bright they are going to appear on other monitors.

This is pretty much a test to see if the colors are coming out wrong on all of my stuff, or just the last pic.. This is Cheevie, BTW

Well, if you saw that last post of my OC, I deleted it. I’ll post it again later when I can figure out why it is not showing up the way it looked in the program that I created it in.
